ICLs or implantable collamer lenses are flexible lenses designed specifically to fit inside the eye behind the iris and correct nearsightedness. They are safe, effective and give a phenomenal visual result. ICLs can give better vision than LASIK in patients with very high prescriptions. For patients who are very nearsighted, this may be the best option for vision correction. Waite Vision's founder and board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Aaron Waite, often utilizes this surgery to repair refractive vision errors as the results are immediate and long-lasting. ICLs are surgically removable and can be replaced or switched if needed. Currently, in the US, ICLs are FDA-approved to treat nearsightedness only. To find out if you are a candidate for ICLs, schedule a consultation with Dr. Waite at our Lehi, UT facility at your earliest convenience.
We use the Visian ICL (implantable collamer lens) at Waite Vision. The ICL is placed in the posterior chamber, behind the iris and does not require the natural lens to be removed. This procedure is recognized as an alternative to corneal refractive surgeries like LASIK.
"Dr. Waite and his entire staff are amazing. They were completely accommodating, professional and kind to me while I was freaking out about cataracts in both eyes. If you must have eye surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Waite."- A.C. / Google / Jul 24, 2019
"Dr. Waite and his ophthalmology practice is unsurpassed in offering the best and most up to date technology, anywhere in the world. Everything was state-of-the-art, including his surgical room. My experience was simply amazing. I felt so comfortable from the moment I walked into his office, (which is beautiful by the way, with the most gorgeous views of the valley). His entire staff are the absolute best, reaching out and assisting me at at my every need and answered in detail every question i had. They are the absolute friendliest and most professional staff that you will ever find anywhere. AND... Dr. Waite is pretty darn awesome as well. So genuine, so very personable and concerned about my comfort level every step of the way. He explained everything and talked me through my cataract procedure from start to finish. He successfully lowered my anxiety level from a ten to a one, (well OK, he lowered it to maybe a two). His expertise is at the highest level possible. To sum it up, for the first time in my life, i do not need glasses or eye-wear of any kind. My vision is perfect, both far and near. This is only the Doctor and facility I would ever recommend, a wonderful experience with a great outcome. Thank you Dr Waite."- R.F. / Google / Jul 04, 2019

"I highly recommend Waite Vision. Dr Waite and his staff are friendly and professional. Having had to wear glasses or contacts for 30+ years ICL surgery has been literally life changing. Financing was easy and very reasonable. Thanks Waite Vision!"- M.M. / Google / Jun 21, 2019
Candidates for ICLs are between the ages of 21 – 45 years old with a stable correction. Patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness are the most ideal candidates for this procedure. Having a history of eye surgeries or eye diseases, such as glaucoma, iritis, or diabetic retinopathy, may disqualify you from implantable contact lens surgery.
The implantable contact lens procedure is an outpatient procedure under a light, topical or local anesthetic. Prior to the procedure, a peripheral irridotomy is performed in the office to alleviate any build-up of pressure within the eye. On the day of the procedure, a small incision is created at the base of the eye. The lens is folded, inserted through the incision and positioned in the eye. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and the results are almost immediate.
What to Expect
Once your procedure is finished and you are discharged from outpatient surgery, your vision will continue to improve over the next 48 hours as your eyes heal. You should be able to return to most of your daily activities quickly. Do not rub your eyes for 3 – 5 following your procedure. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled with Waite Vision soon after your procedure so that Dr. Waite can verify that you are healing properly.
Think of the value of waking up in the morning, seeing your alarm clock clearly and conquering the day without the continual need to search for your glasses. The benefits of implant contact lenses are endless. The value offered by this procedure is much greater than the dollar amount invested. The one-time cost of implant contact lenses is far less than the cumulative recurring expense of glasses or contact lenses, and you’re making that investment in yourself. You’ll immediately discover the significant improvement in the quality of your life when you’re free of glasses or contacts.
Waite Vision will gladly check with your insurance company to determine your coverage, however, ICLs are often considered elective. Our support staff can assist you in improving the quality of your life by accepting major credit cards and health savings accounts (HSAs). We also offer easy financing plans starting as low as $99 per month. Ask a team member to learn more about the multiple payment options available.
